Ritvo Autism Asperger Diagnostic Scale-Revised (RAADS-R)

Scientific background →

For each statement, the RAADS-R asks not just whether it's currently true, but also whether it was true before age 16 -- since autistic traits develop in childhood, even when they're only recognized in adulthood. This test is meant for adults (16+) and takes 15-30 minutes depending on reading speed.

This test is a self-exploration tool, not a clinical or diagnostic assessment of autism. Both autistic and non-autistic people can fall above or below the thresholds mentioned. Whether an autism spectrum condition is present can only be determined through a professional evaluation by specialized psychologists or doctors.

Important for interpretation

Screening is not diagnosis. A score above the cut-off of 65 does not mean "autism" — it means a professional assessment may be worthwhile. A low score does not rule autism out either; strong "masking" can lower it (see the CAT-Q). Current research raises real questions about the RAADS-R's diagnostic specificity, and the total score bundles four different trait areas rather than being a single "autism score." An actual diagnosis relies on instruments such as the ADOS-2 and ADI-R together with clinical judgement.
